We Believe You Can Change the world.

#CHANGETHENOW is a region-wide movement to bring together the diversity of socially focused people and inspire them through changemaking engagements. The key activity of the #CHANGETHENOW movement, is a social hack conceptualized as The Changemaker Challenge. The #CHANGETHENOW Changemaker Challenge is oriented toward students (K to postsecondary) faculty, teachers, staff and community partners so they might envision, create and enact activities and programs that will help tackle a wicked community problem and result in increased wellbeing.

About Us

The Centre For Changemaking and Social Innovation

Our goal is to empower our stakeholders as changemakers and inspire them to create meaningful change through innovative solutions. We develop and exchange ideas, start conversations, engage in research and creatively experiment to address systemic community issues.

Working with the Ashoka definition of a changemaker ‘one who desires change in the and by gathering knowledge and resources, makes that change happen’ the Centre for Changemaking and Social Innovation identifies pathways and provides opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community partners to access the knowledge and resources they need to make change happen in our communities and economies.

Our Programs

The Centre for Changemaking and Social Innovation supports several initiatives that catalyze the strategies to make meaningful change happen. We maintain several ongoing engagement programs to make changemaking and social innovation knowledge and resources accessible to our community partners.

  • Charlie Changemaker (student engagement)
  • #ChangeTheNow (region of changemakers)
  • Changed-It! (K-12 social hack engagement)
  • Community Impact Projects (field placement)

Our Initiatives

The Centre for Changemaking and Social Innovation supports several initiatives that catalyze the strategies to make meaningful change happen. These include:

  • Community Service Learning (CSL)
  • SENCO – Social Enterprise Network of Central Ontario
  • CIL – Community Impact Lab

Community Service Learning

Giving students meaningful community service opportunities with classroom instruction and critical reflection to enrich the learning experience and strengthen communities.

Community Impact Lab

The Community Impact Lab has expert facilitators that empowers our students and community partners to develop community leadership assets designed to amplify regional collective impact initiatives through the Community Impact Projects (CIP)

Community Projects Initiative

The Community Impact Projects is an alternative field placement offered through the Community Impact Lab at the Georgian College Orillia Campus to our Human Services students. Inspired by Ashoka’s definition of a changemaker – one who desires changes in world and by gathering knowledge and resources makes that change happen – the goal of CIP is to inspire students and community partners to explore movement building frameworks to tackle systems level issues in our regions.

Community Resources to Support The Design and Build of Social Enterprise

SENCO inspires, connects and equips those looking to engage in social enterprise to face cultural, environmental and social challenges in our region.

We work with social enterprises, budding social entrepreneurs, organizations, intermediaries and community leaders to support innovative economic approaches to strengthen our communities. Our goal is to be the bridge to new knowledge, resources and supporting business practices to achieve financial growth and sustainability through social enterprise.

“In 2017, Ashoka U designated Georgian a Changemaker Campus. It inspired us all, not because of what it meant, but because of what we already do.”

Ashoka Changemaker Campus

Currently over 40 colleges and universities globally are recognized as Changemaker Campuses and Georgian is one of the them. In fact, It’s the leading designation for social innovation in higher education. We’re the only college in Canada that has it! Changemaker institutions are purpose-driven and use post-secondary education as a force for good. They model an open and adaptive approach rather than embodying disciplinary silos and rigid hierarchies.
