“The Secret of CHANGE is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” ~ Socrates
“Social isolation is a state of complete or near-complete lack of contact between an individual and society. It differs from loneliness, which reflects a temporary and involuntary lack of contact with other humans in the world.” Connect 8 aims to create a common social space to be used by one and all with no cost.
How it Works
The driving force behind our pitch is to create a space within the college community that invites all interests and breaks the common repetitive cycle that students often fall into. Throughout the college there are many spaces for students to go, however, these areas can create a sense of segregation further making students feel more alone. By creating a space for everyone to engage and relax it will help to break the cycle of isolation. Our solution is to implement a recreation room within the college community that eliminates the pressures of feeling the need to buy something in order to participate. The rec room can be a space that students should feel free to come and lounge, study, socialize, play, de-stress, and ultimately grow together as a community. Space would be open for anyone to use at their leisure. Our hope is that this will eliminate social isolation as a whole. This solution is meant to be versatile and can be implemented anywhere desired.
